X-factor #3: Devonta Freeman

The NY Giants need to do a better job of controlling the clock in games this year. This is where Devonta Freeman and the importance of the run game will be shown against Philly.

Freeman is the clear-cut starting back for NY now after leading the team in carries four straight weeks since signing after Week 2. Freeman’s usage, carries, and yardage have all increased each weeks. The GMen needs that trend to continue in Week 7 at Lincoln Financial.

With the ongoing struggles of the  Giants’ passing game coupled with injuries at the receiver position, Garrett could go with a run-heavy gameplay for Jim Schwartz’s defense. The Eagles’ defense has done a solid job containing running backs this year but there are cracks in their system.

The Eagles have let up the 3rd most 20+ yard runs in the league this year along with tying for the most rushing touchdowns allowed. Although it has been nothing spectacular, Devonta Freeman has been able to churn out two impactful games in a row by grinding out yards and hitting holes with one cut and then getting upfield.

Look for Freeman and the Giants’ offense to try and control the game’s tempo and use the clock to their advantage if they are able to do so.
