NY Giants LG Will Hernandez tested positive for COVID-19 forcing four players and several coaches to isolate
The NY Giants will add left guard Will Hernandez to the COVID-19 reserve list, a team source tells GMenHQ, and send several coaches home.
Hernandez is the first Giants player to test positive for COVID-19 this season, and the team sent him home to isolate Thursday along with outside linebacker coach Bret Bielema, defensive backs coach Jerome Henderson, and four offensive linemen who were close contacts of Hernandez.
The Giants plan to keep the facility open on Thursday, but will be shorthanded this week ahead of their game currently scheduled for Monday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
NFL Network was first to report on the coaches being sent home to isolate:
The Giants released a statement Thursday morning, following Hernandez’ positive test:
"Late last night, we were notified that a Giants player tested positive for COVID-19. The player was immediately self-isolated, and the contact tracing process was initiated. All of the player’s close contacts were identified and were informed to remain home today. Those individuals will participate in meetings remotely. We are working closely with the NFL’s Chief Medical Officer regarding next protocol steps.Quest Diagnostics Training Center will remain open, and the rest of the team will follow their normal practice and meeting schedule."
The Giants are currently scheduled to practice Thursday, Friday, and Saturday ahead of their next game which is scheduled for Monday night.
