Justin Fields – QB, Ohio State

Game: Ohio State at Penn State, 7:30 p.m.

Fields is the consensus No. 2 passer in this year’s class, and an NFC personnel director tells me that the Ohio State quarterback should be the second player to hear his name called after Lawrence.

Saturday night in State College, Fields faces likely his most daunting challenge of the season against Penn State’s defense. Last week in the Buckeyes’ opener, Fields looked every bit the part of a potential NFL franchise quarterback, carving up Nebraska for 276 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Fields, 6-foot-3 and 228 pounds, has the ideal size and length that coaches look for in a quarterback and seemed to move quickly through his progressions and also showing a willingness to take off and run when necessary against Nebraska, rushing for 59 yards and a score.

It remains to be seen if the Giants will stick with Daniel Jones beyond 2020, and the final nine games of the season might serve as an audition for the second-year quarterback. However, if the Giants are picking No. 2 overall in April, Jones will likely have figured fairly significantly in the team’s struggles. If given the opportunity to take Fields might be tough to pass up for the Giants.
