Patrick Surtain – CB, Alabama

Game: vs. Mississippi State, 7:00 p.m.

The Giants desperately need cornerback help, and if they fall out of the top four picks, Surtain could be a player to watch.

Surtain, 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds, has prototypical size that defensive coordinators look for in an outside cornerback and elite ball-skills. With plenty of explosiveness, and sup 4.5 speed in the 40-yard dash, it’s pretty easy to envision Surtain lining up at outside cornerback for the Giants, finally providing some stability opposite James Bradberry.

So far this season, Surtain has 10 total tackles and five pass breakups.

According to an NFC personnel director I spoke to this week, Surtain is “really legit,” and has a strong argument as the best non-quarterback prospect in this class. The evaluator compared Surtain to Jeffrey Okudah, chosen by the Detroit Lions No. 3 overall last spring, but noted Surtain may be a better player at this stage of his development.
