5) RB Devonta Freeman

Saquon Barkley will likely be ready to return when the Giants hit the grass for training camp next summer, and Wayne Gallman has proven over the years capable of being a complementary piece in the backfield.

Meanwhile, Freeman has struggled to stay healthy since signing with the Giants back in September, and is now on injured reserve with a high-ankle sprain and hamstring injury, out for at least the next three weeks.

Freeman never quite developed into a bellcow type of back this season, averaging just 3.2 yards per carry, on his 54 attempts for 172 yards and a touchdown. In Weeks 5 and 6 against the Dallas Cowboys, Freeman rushed for a combined 121 yards and a touchdown, but never produced more than 61 yards in any game this season.

Chances are, the Giants will re-up Gallman, possibly even choose a running back at some point during next April’s NFL Draft, and allow Freeman to hit the open market. If Freeman in fact becomes a free agent, it will be interesting to see what kind of market develops for his services, after a pair of injury-riddled seasons.
