Round 4: Jake Ferguson – TE, Wisconsin

Size: 6-foot-5, 246 pounds

2020 stats: 18 catches for 181 yards and 4 touchdowns

The Giants will be bringing Evan Engram back on his fifth-year option, but the final six weeks and next season might serve as an audition for whether or not he’s the long-term solution at tight end.

Regardless of whether Engram — whom the Giants turned down trade offers for at the NFL trade deadline — is in New York beyond 2021, his inconsistency underscores the need to continue adding pass catching options at tight end.

Jake Ferguson is an intriguing prospect because of his size, and the fact that he plays like a wide receiver when in the open-field. Ferguson feasts over the middle of the field in the passing game, and excels after the catch. The Giants could easily replicate Engram’s role with Ferguson and perhaps expand the possibilities for Jones in two tight end sets.
