Clay Matthews is already familiar with NY Giants defense

It can’t be stated enough the impact Patrick Graham has had on this organization.

Graham’s weekly schemes and gameplans have been masterful and brilliant.

Graham’s influence is felt all over this defense. The NY Giants brought in several guys with prior connections to Graham such as Blake Martinez, Kyler FackrellMontre Hartage, and Trent Harris. The team already brought in two linebackers this offseason from Green Bay. You might as well add a third then!

Luckily for NY, Clay Matthews spent his final season in Green Bay with Patrick Graham as his linebackers coach and run game coordinator. Green Bay deployed an attacking 3-4 defense, a system very similar to what Graham has brought and ran with the NY Giants in 2020.

Matthews spent four seasons together with both Martinez and Fackrell. He is familiar with both players and the three helped form a formidable linebacker corps for four years. The three players experienced much success together, going to the playoffs twice, winning a game both times, and playing in five total playoff games together.

Bringing the band back together is rarely a bad thing. Matthews could be a catalyst and further raise and improve Martinez’s performance on the field along with Fackrell when he returns from short-term IR.
