NY Giants coach Joe Judge says he’s optimistic that Daniel Jones will be able to return for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals

The NY Giants hope to get quarterback Daniel Jones back for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, after upsetting the Seattle Seahawks last week with Colt McCoy behind center.

“We’re going to give him an opportunity to go out there today and run around the field,” Judge said Wednesday. “We’re still in that point of the week, I haven’t seen him do anything physically since last week. We’ll see him moving around a little bit today. We’re optimistic.”

Because Wednesday’s practice is a walkthrough for the Giants, the biggest test for Jones in his quest to return from a right hamstring injury suffered two weeks ago against the Cincinnati Bengals will be Thursday’s practice.

Similarly to last week, Judge says that he’s not going to put Jones on the field in a game situation unless he is convinced that he is fully healthy enough to protect himself in and out of the pocket.

“I know he’s going to tell us everything we want to hear, so we’re going to use our eyes instead of our ears with Daniel,” Judge said. “We’re going to give him a chance to progress, tomorrow will be a full day to move around and Friday will be a big day to kind of make the final decision, hopefully.”

The Giants host the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at MetLife Stadium, aiming to remain atop the NFC East standings.
