NY Giants offensive coordinator Jason Garrett has tested positive for COVID-19, the team announced, elevating Freddie Kitchens to offensive coordinator for Sunday’s game.

NY Giants offensive coordinator Jason Garrett tested positive for COVID-19, the team announced Thursday, forcing him out of Sunday night’s game against the Cleveland Browns.

Former Browns head coach, and Giants tight ends coach, Freddie Kitchens will serve as the NY Giants’ offensive coordinator on Sunday night and call the plays against his former team.

Additionally, the Giants canceled Thursday’s scheduled practice “out of an abundance of caution,” and will work remotely, but the team did not identify any high-risk contacts after conducing contact tracing.

“We are currently working with the league’s chief medical officer regarding close contacts,” The Giants tweeted. “Because of the league’s most updated protocols, Giants coaches and players did not meet on either Monday or Tuesday, and the majority of the staff worked remotely.”

Earlier this season, offensive guard Will Hernandez, kicker Graham Gano, rookie offensive tackle Matt Peart, tight end Kaden Smith, and wide receiver Dante Pettis each tested positive for the virus.

Kitchens brings plenty of familiarity with the Browns, serving as Cleveland’s runing back’s coach and offensive coordinator in 2018 before becoming head coach last season.

Next. If Giants are going to make playoffs, these 4 players must step up. dark
