Xavier McKinney intercepts his first career pass

Rookie slot cornerback Darnay Holmes hasn’t practiced all week due to a knee injury that kept him out of last week’s game, which should open up an expanded role for second-round pick Xavier McKinney.

McKinney has already logged 51 defensive snaps, and is holding opposing quarterbacks to a 70.1 passer rating when targeting him and receivers to just 3.5 yards per reception.

During his collegiate career at Alabama, McKinney intercepted five passes and broke up three more in 32 games.

Presuming that Holmes is once again unable to play, and McKinney reprises his role in the slot again this week, this could be his breakout performance.

Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield has tossed eight interceptions this season, and for some reason, I have a sneaking suspicion that if he throws a ninth at MetLife Stadium on Sunday night that it will be McKinney corralling it.
