NY Giants QB Colt McCoy will make his second start of the season Sunday, in place of injured Daniel Jones, sources say

The NY Giants will turn to Colt McCoy Sunday night against the Cleveland Browns, to make his second start in the past three weeks in place of injured quarterback Daniel Jones, sources confirmed to GMenHQ Saturday.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was first to report McCoy would get the start.

Jones is still battling the lingering effects of a sprained left ankle suffered in last Sunday’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals as well as an injured right hamstring that knocked him from Week 12 against the Cincinnati Bengals. McCoy came on in relief of Jones in the second half in Cincinnati and started the following week’s victory over the Seattle Seahawks.

Last Sunday, McCoy relieved Jones late in the fourth quarter.

In three appearances this season, McCoy has completed 60 percent of his passes for 154 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

McCoy will make the start against the team he played for from 2010 to 2012, and have plays called by Freddie Kitchens — who was the Browns’ head coach last season, after offensive coordinator Jason Garrett tested positive for COVID-19 this week.

Giants head coach Joe Judge says he has plenty of confidence that McCoy will be able to seamlessly lead the offense on Sunday night.

"“I thought just his experience really showed up in that [Seattle] game,” Judge said Friday. “The biggest thing he’s very good at is Colt’s a very positive guy. He’s a competitor and he’s a very positive guy. He understands the flow of we’re always getting ready for a 60-minute game. If things aren’t going well initially, you’re never going to hear him complain or tap out. He’s very committed to the process. Any adjustments you have to make, Colt’s a smart dude.”"
