3) 9/30/2007: NY Giants defeat Philadelphia Eagles, 16-3

A domination of epic proportions.

The NY Giants entered their week four primetime match-up vs. the Eagles at 1-2, barely squeaking by the Washington Football team the week prior. What happened in this game would help them achieve a six game win streak, and later in the season .. eternal greatness.

The Giants’ defense put on an absolute clinic in this game, sacking Eagles’ quarterback Donovan McNabb a whopping twelve times. Defensive end Osi Umenyiora had the best game of his career, taking down McNabb a total of six times during the contest.

“It was like a video game out there,” Umenyiora stated after his display of domination.

Actually, it wasn’t like a video game, because if it was your opponent would’ve quit before the clock ran out.

The Giants have been trying to recreate their defensive line in the image of this one for over a decade now, but it’s impossible for them, or any other team – often imitated, never duplicated.

For most defenses, this would be their greatest achievement of the season, maybe franchise history – but I think shutting down an undefeated team in the Super Bowl later that year might reign supreme.

Still, for the records they set and the domination of perhaps their most hated rival, this moment ranks highly in the eyes of Giants’ fans everywhere.
