QB Colt McCoy

Grade C+

And only partially because there are already so many Cs in his name.

Colt McCoy had a solid game against the team that drafted him, and he looked much more poised under center now that he’s had more practice and game time playing with the Giants’ starters. He read the defense well enough at the line to call plays according to their formation, and it helped the Giants sustain drives with a healthy mix of runs and passes.

He threw a few dimes throughout the game, too. On the Giants’ second drive, McCoy hit a deep pass to Darius Slayton along the left sideline for 35 yards. He then hit Evan Engram in the end zone for a would-be touchdown, but Engram dropped the contested catch.

McCoy only connected on 19 of his 31 attempts, throwing for 221 yards and no touchdowns for an 82.9 passer rating. But he connected to eight different receivers, hitting five separate receivers multiple times throughout the game.

The biggest reason he helped the Giants stay in this game, though, was his zero turnovers.

McCoy threw an interception in the Giants win against Seattle, and he lost a fumble mopping up the garbage time in the loss to Arizona. But he has displayed a refreshing sense of ball security during most of his gameplay filling in for Daniel Jones.

But failing to score a touchdown despite three trips to the Red Zone and an inability to convert on 3rd and 4th down can only give McCoy a grade so high.
