NY Giants Defensive Week 16 Snap Counts

The NY Giants defense was on the field far too early and far too often the entire 1st half. The defense got galvanized by everything the Ravens’ offense was doing.

As usual, the Giants’ three most consistent players on defense, Blake Martinez, Jabrill Peppers, and Logan Ryan, all played 100% of the defensive snaps. James Bradberry and Yiadom followed their suit and played 65 out of 68 snaps, missing only three snaps each.

Elsewhere, “Mr Irrelevant” Tae Crowder saw 84% of the defensive snaps while lined up next to Martinez. The 7th round rookie looked a bit overwhelmed and overmatched yesterday dealing with the power, deception, and speed of the Ravens offense.

Dexter Lawrence and Leonard Williams saw 51 snaps each on the line while Dalvin Tomlinson got a little less with 45 snaps. Xavier McKinney played a career-high snaps with 46 snaps, good for 68% of the total snaps (also a career-high). The team deployed three safeties much of the game to rover the defense and deal with Jackson’s video game quickness and the overall speed of the Ravens.

David Mayo saw 44 snaps, probably a bit too much for his talent. He also played off the EDGE totally out of position due to so many injuries at the team’s EDGE unit. Jabaal Sheard flanked the other edge for 30 snaps and didn’t provide much in the run or pass game.

Some other interesting nuggets include Darnay Holmes not seeing a single defensive or special teams snap despite being active after missing two games with a knee injury. Also, the once-turnover machine, Niko Lalos, saw a mere 4 defensive snaps while Devante Downs has completely lost his role in the defense after a blown assignment and allowing a touchdown in Week 15 against the Browns. Downs is yet to take a defensive snaps since and has solely been relegated to special teams.
