Alex Leatherwood – OL, Alabama

Size: 6’6, 312 pounds

Career Stats: 4-year Player, 3-year Starter

Round Projection: Rounds 2-4

Alex Leatherwood is one of the 2021 NFL Draft’s biggest and brawniest players in the trenches.

Leatherwood saw time in seven games as a freshman, an impressive feat for any Alabama player under Nick Saban. He finished the 2018 National Championship playing most of the second half after an injury to Jonah Williams.

Since 2017, Alex started his last three years at Bama where he played in two more National Championships and won one of them.

Leatherwood took over at left tackle in 2020 and physically overwhelmed his competition. Alex won the Outland Trophy, the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, 1st Team All-SEC, and the Unanimous All American. Leatherwood was a two-time 1st Team All-SEC and one time 2nd Team All-SEC his three years starting.

Many NFL scouts have wondered if Leatherwood’s future NFL career is best suited at guard but he will be exclusively playing left tackle all week in Mobile.

The NY Giants need help at both right tackle and arguably at both guard positions. Leatherwood’s personality, winning pedigree, and nasty streak would be a perfect fit in NY. He will need to impress all the talent evaluators watching with close eyes and will have to prove he belongs on the field wherever he lines up.
