It was never going to be easy moving on from Eli Manning for the NY Giants but Daniel Jones certainly helped make the process easier.

When the NY Giants drafted Daniel Jones 6th overall in the 2019 NFL draft it was obvious the end was near for Manning as the Giants quarterback. The character of Eli Manning and Daniel Jones insured that it wasn’t a messy transition. After 2 losses to start the 2019 season Daniel Jones would take the reigns from Manning. Manning would start his final two games of his career later in the year after a Jones injury.

Daniel Jones had a really good rookie season for the NY Giants as he threw 24 touchdown passes and had 4 different games with 4 or more total touchdowns. Jones often cited Manning as someone who really helped and mentored him. The NY Giants transition from Manning to Jones was nothing like the Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers transition.

According to the New York Daily News, Manning and Jones met for lunch last week. The relationship was strong and it continues after a tough 2020 season for Daniel Jones. Jones and Manning spoke throughout the 2020 season and Manning has stated high praise for Jones. He’s also made it clear he will be their to help Jones when needed. It’s hard to say how much not having Manning to lean on affected Jones.

Eli Manning will always be one of the most famous — and beloved — NY Giants in the history of the franchise.

Manning’s continued involvement in the development of Daniel Jones will warm the hearts of all NY Giants fans. The NY Giants need a big year out of Daniel Jones in his third season as the Giants starting quarterback and the second season without Manning by his side.

Jones had his ups and downs in year 2. Jones had an ugly touchdown-to interception rate this season, as he had 12 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 14 games.

He flashed as a rusher as he had 423 yards on 65 carries. In his last 6 games Jones threw just one interception which was very encouraging.

It appears Eli Manning wants to have a role with the NY Giants. He doesn’t want to coach but he does want to be involved. Manning is looking to help some of the younger players on recently met with John Mara to discuss this. The NY Giants have a young team, a young coach and any veteran insight and leadership is welcomed.

Eli Manning once said “Once a Giant, always a Giant, only a Giants”.

The NY Giants will love seeing Manning around the facility in his second year of retirement as will Daniel Jones. It’s up to guys like Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley to lead this team now.
