NY Giants rumors: 5 Trade targets for this offseason
By John Makuch
Alshon Jeffrey, WR
If you’re going to be talking Giants trade rumors, wide receiver is going to be the main point of that discussion especially with all the talent currently on the trade block.
With a rising young star in Darius Slayton, and a solid slot guy in Sterling Shepard, the NY Giants have the foundation to build a good receiving core, but they need those go up and get it guys, and Jeffrey is just that.
Daniel Jones needs his deep threats, and while we did not see Jeffrey for much of 2020 due to injury, he should still have some left in the tank to provide some help as this team builds its core.
Jeffrey turns 31 in February, so to expect 3-4 years left of solid production from him is nothing out of the ordinary.
Jeffrey holds a cap hit of just over 6.5 million dollars in 2021 which the Giants could potentially workaround as they try to find help for their young quarterback.
Alshon Jeffrey has been rumored to be traded from the division-rival Eagles for quite some time now, and it does not seem as unlikely as one might think that they would make a trade despite the rivalry as Jeffrey most likely wants out.
Having a good all-around guy in Slayton, a slot guy in Shepard, and then a big red-zone threat such as Jeffrey would cover all the bases for Daniel Jones and this receiving core.
While this would not make the Giants elite or massively better, it would be a good place to start in terms of improvement for this growing offense. Jeffrey would also be a good mentor for Darius Slayton as his development continues.
