Stephon Gilmore, Cornerback

Again, the cap situation does not agree with many of these trades, but when you can acquire a talent such as the best corner in all of football, you clear the cap space you have to clear to make it work within reason of course.

Stephon Gilmore is a former defensive player of the year, an elite corner that has played at an unprecedented level these past few seasons for the New England Patriots.

The Patriots and the Giants making a trade sounds a bit weird considering their rivalry of sorts, but at the end of the day they are in different conferences so this is a different situation.

Gilmore has been rumored in trade talks for quite some time now and with one year left on his deal, now is the time for teams to pick him up for teams that have the assets to do so.

If the Giants were to discuss this trade, one thing they should do is not even mention Saquon Barkley’s name, if he is needed for the deal they should hang up the phone immediately. A more reasonable name would be tight end, Evan Engram, in this package.

This trade would require a lot from the Giants to give up, but pairing Gilmore up with James Bradberry would be a cornerback duo like we have not seen in a long time. This would also not require the same haul that the NY Giants would need to give up for a Deshaun Watson which would require three first-round picks and even more draft capital.

The defensive line would suffer if this trade was made however, getting Gilmore means less money for other positions and the inability to resign Dalvin Tomlinson or Leonard Williams even so this is a risky move for the top cornerback.

It appears to be a move that would be worth it for the right price, the Giants defense would immediately gain another great player in that secondary, and the defense would develop that much more.

Trade Package: Evan Engram 11th pick, 4th round pick 2021 3rd round pick 2022 6th round pick 2022.

To be realistic, the most likely scenario is that none of these trades happen and the Giants hold onto their draft capital and build through there. However, it is always fun to speculate and imagine just what the NY Giants could maybe do to spice things up this offseason.
