NY Giants needs: 4 cornerback free agents, NFL Draft prospects to target
2) Michael Davis
For the Giants’ needs, there might not be a better fit than former Chargers cornerback Mike Davis.
Davis, 6-foot-2 and 196 pounds has the size, length and physicality that defensive coordinators view as plug-and-play traits of outside cornerbacks and he plays with an aggressiveness that made him one of the Chargers’ most feared defensive backs last season.
Holding opposing quarterbacks to a 77.7 passer rating and receivers to just 12.3 yards per reception on targets against him, Davis only surrendered 56 receptions in 92 targets. He also intercepted three passes, ninth-most in the NFL.
If the Giants were able to pair Davis with Bradberry, who is 6-foot-1 and 212 pounds, they would have two of the longer cornerback duos in the league. At age 27, Davis could also be a building block for the organization for the next four years, and allow the No. 11 pick to be invested in offensive help to continue building around quarterback Daniel Jones.
The Chargers might not be able to afford Davis, and there might not be a better match of need and skill-set at the cornerback position in free agency than Davis and the Giants.
