NY Giants Rumors: Can Joe Thuney or Brandon Scherff complete the OL Rebuild?
Conclusion
Ultimately, the NY Giants have to do something with their offensive line.
They can’t keep sitting with what they currently have and feel good or satisfied with this unit and their progression as a final destination or endgame for the offensive line. This unit is still light years away from the Giants’ dominant offensive lines of the late 2000s and early 2010s.
The Giants’ decision-makers must heavily weigh their offensive line conundrum this offseason. if they are content with Hernandez and Lemieux at left guard, one (or both) of the two better progress, develop and turn into a legit starter in 2021. Lemieux seems destined to be a depth player for his career while Hernandez never made the next step in his career as a 2nd round pick.
If they want to move on from Zeitler at right guard, they must seriously consider that as well. Zeitler has done little to fix the disastrous offensive line of the last two seasons. He’s only getting older and his price tag is quite hefty.
The Giants should truly look at both of these veteran, free-agent guards. Both players would instantly add credibility and confidence to this unit. Both Scherff and Thuney are unquestioned starters at guard and are impactful players in the pass and run games.
If Dave Gettleman is serious about fixing the offensive line once and for all as he famously has stated, he must do his part in fairly evaluating his own guys and then comparing them to external options such as both free agents available here.
The Giants need to keep attacking and building their starters and depth on the offensive line. They have to start adding proven players that are reliable and trustworthy and it could start with Joe Thuney or Brandon Scherff.
