NY Giants sign OG Zach Fulton, bolstering interior line depth
Zach Fulton, who started all 16 games at right guard for the Houston Texans last season signed with the NY Giants Thursday
The NY Giants improved depth along the interior offensive line Thursday, agreeing to terms with former Houston Texans offensive guard Zach Fulton, the team announced.
Fulton, 29, was originally a sixth-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2014 NFL Draft and is looking to bounce back from an inconsistent showing with the Texans in 2020.
Last season, according to Pro Football Focus, Fulton allowed 11 sacks and one quarterback hit, while producing a 63 overall grade, 62.1 pass-protection mark and a 60 run-blocking grade.
Fulton started all 16 games for the Texans at right guard last season. The Texans freed up approximately $3 million in cap space by releasing Fulton last week, less than a year after re-working his contract last May.
The NY Giants needed to add a guard at some point this offseason, after releasing veteran Kevin Zeitler as a cap casualty earlier this month. Zeitler went on to sign with the Baltimore Ravens shortly after being released.
After being signed by the NY Giants, Fulton will likely compete with Shane Lemieux for the starting right guard position, or at minimum serve as New York’s swing-guard after Will Hernandez was essentially a rotational player in 2020.
Fulton has appeared in 107 games, starting 90 of them, including 31 starts over the past two seasons.
