The NY Giants aren’t done shopping for help across the depth chart, even as free agency rounds into its second week, hosting defensive lineman Danny Shelton for a free agent visit.

Shelton’s visit was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

After losing Dalvin Tomlinson via free agency to the Minnesota Vikings, it isn’t surprising to see the NY Giants doing due diligence to replace him along the defensive line, even after re-signing veteran tackle Austin Johnson.

Shelton, 27, was the Cleveland Browns’ first-round selection in the 2015 NFL Draft with the No. 12 overall pick. Through the first six seasons of his career, Shelton has produced 87 total tackles, 5.5 sacks, and 16 tackles for loss.

Last season, Shelton produced 24 total tackles for the Detroit Lions along with one sack and 10 quarterback pressures, as

Pro Football Focus

gave him a 64 pass-rush grade.

It would seem that should the NY Giants sign Shelton, he would be a depth-addition and perhaps push as Dexter Lawrence’s backup, and could push for a roster spot during training camp this summer. Shelton could even push for a starting job alongside Lawrence and Leonard Williams.

NY Giants head coach Joe Judge and Shelton both spent two seasons with the New England Patriots from 2018-2019.

Defensive line is one of the deeper positions on the team, at least at the top of the depth chart, but for the right price, Shelton could be a quality depth addition.
