NY Giants head coach Joe Judge continued to scout some of the premier defensive players in next month’s 2021 NFL Draft, taking in the University of Miami’s pro day and watching edge rusher Gregory Rousseau workout.

Rousseau, 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds, is viewed as one of the premier edge rushers in this year’s class, and would fill a glaring need along the NY Giants’ front-seven with the potential to step in as an immediate starter if he’s chosen with the No. 11 overall pick.

During Monday’s pro day, Rousseau ran the 40-yard dash in 4.72 seconds.

Prior to opting out last season, Rousseau produced 15.5 sacks, and forced two fumbles along with his 59 total tackles as one of the Hurricanes’ most dominant edge defenders.

With the ideal length to give offensive tackles fits, and plenty of strength to win battles with linemen up front, Rousseau generated pressure on 18 percent of his snaps in 2019, according to Sports Info Solutions.

Last week, Judge and Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham took in Penn State’s pro day, getting a first-hand look at linebacker Micah Parsons and edge-rusher Jayson Oweh. It seems that the NY Giants are prioritizing scouting top defensive talent after spending big in free agency on wide receiver Kenny Golladay, and high-upside addition John Ross.
