They bolstered their depth with solid, successful players

The NY Giants certainly had a type for their depth signings this off-season.

In a refreshing twist, the front office brought in players who have contributed to championship level success to bolster the team’s depth – instead of bodies that fill a roster spot. Players like Danny Shelton, Reggie Ragland and Ryan Anderson may not be called upon to start, but their impacts will be felt through out the season.

Part of turning the tides of a team’s fortunes is learning how to win. Each player has reached the pinnacle of the football world – Shelton’s Super Bowl ring with the Patriots, Ragland’s with the Chiefs, and Ragland and Anderson finding championship success together at the University of Alabama.

During Judge’s time in New England, the Patriots made a living bringing in players like Shelton and having them contribute to Super Bowl championships. While these signings won’t set the Twitter-verse on fire with celebration, they can be just as important as ones that do.

It’s something that sounds simple, but it isn’t something the Giants have done over the year. It’ll be a welcome change to see the team have some solid depth in the event that somebody goes down with an injury.
