Washington Football Team Draft Needs

2021 Draft Picks: #19, #51, #74, #82, #124, and #163

Biggest Positions of Need: Quarterback, Tight End, Linebacker

The Washington Football Team are the reigning champions of the NFC East.

They fought strong and hung tough, and ultimately ended Week 17 as the winners of the NFL’s worst division. Alex Smith became one of the NFL’s best feel-good stories in a long time as he fought his way back through multiple surgeries after a near career-ending leg injury.

Smith is gone now and Ryan Fitzpatrick will take his place. Fitz is a solid, veteran starter and leader but he has yet to go to the playoffs in his 16-year career. He is at best a stopgap option and Washington needs to start looking at guys to be their quarterback of the future.

This year, Fitzpatrick will be slinging the rock to guys such as Terry McLaurin, Logan Thomas, Adam Humphries, and the newly signed Curtis Samuel. The quadruplet will look to be the vast majority of the WFT passing offense as there is little proven commodities behind them. Specifically at tight end, Logan Thomas will need help this year. Although Kyle Pitts won’t be there at 19, expect Ron Rivera to nab a tight end in the middle of the draft.

The WFT boasts one of the deepest, most talented, and versatile front defensive lines in football. Few teams can match their sheer talent and depth at the position both off the EDGE and with the big uglies on the interior. Behind them is an unspectacular group of linebackers. The position group could use more infusion of talent in 2021 to really beef up their front seven. This is a solid class for some linebackers and a guy like Zaven Collins or Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah could push this defense over the top.
