Round 2, pick No. 42: Alex Leatherwood – OT, Alabama

The NY Giants restructured Nate Solder’s contract to reduce his cap number in 2021, but it is unlikely he is the long-term solution at right tackle, and while the organization is optimistic about Matt Peart, offensive tackle could be an early-round target.

Leatherwood, 6-foot-5 and 312 pounds, has a lofty NFL ceiling thanks in part to the athleticism he showed during his time in Tuscaloosa.

Last season, Leatherwood allowed just three sacks and four quarterback hits, while producing an 80.7 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, one year after not allowing a single sack in 440 pass-blocking snaps.

If Leatherwood can replicate that success at the NFL level, the NY Giants’ offensive line might take a significant step closer to finally completing a multi-year rebuild with a pair of bookend tackles in Leatherwood and Andrew Thomas.
