The NY Giants free agency frenzy may not yet be over.

It appears that the NY Giants active free agency spending is not quite over.

Even after signing Adoree’ Jackson in free agency, the NY Giants might not be done bolstering the secondary.

The Giants reportedly are interested in signing ex-Patriot defensive back, Jason McCourty. Ryan Dunleavy of the NY Post wrote on Twitter that both sides have mutual interest.

Adding McCourty to an already potent, exciting secondary could push this defensive unit over the top.

McCourty is a 12-year vet who’s played for the Titans, Browns, and most recently the Patriots. He’s a former NY native, growing up in Nyack, NY, and then playing his college ball locally at Rutgers with his twin brother, Devin.

There is familiarity with McCourty through Head Coach Joe Judge.

Judge spent his last two seasons in New England watching McCourty command the secondary and help lead some special teams as well. His versatility, experience, and leadership would be a major boon for this Giants defense. Adding McCourty to the likes of James Bradberry, Adoree’ Jackson, Darnay Holmes, and the Giants’ trio of safeties could round out one of the deepest secondaries in the NFL.

McCourty isn’t the same player he once was, but he still uses his football IQ and savviness to make plays and have a positive impact on any team he plays for. Last season in New England, McCourty started 11 games and played in all 16. He racked up 42 tackles and three pass deflections in a smaller role. For his career, McCourty has 18 interceptions, 106 pass deflections, nine forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, and 723 total tackles.

McCourty’s lengthy experience and championship pedigree can help bring the NY Giants back to their winning ways. They may need to compete with other teams to sign him, but that hasn’t stopped the Giants from conducting their business all offseason.
