Round 6, #159 Overall: The NY Giants select: K.J. Costello, QB, Mississippi State

After taking two straight defensive players to shore up the front seven, the Giants go back to work on the offense here with a key yet underappreciated position.

The Giants added journeyman Mike Glennon this offseason. Behind him, they have no legitimate option to come into an NFL game and make anyone feel good about it. Glennon himself on the field would likely be a nightmare scenario nobody in New York is hoping for in 2021. That would either mean Daniel Jones is hurt or played bad enough to be benched for Glennon.

Either scenario would yield dire results for the 2021 NY Giants.

Adding a young, legitimate developmental option at quarterback on an inexpensive rookie contract would be a wise investment. Teaching K.J.  Costello the offense and having a cheap option at quarterback would be a smart option to consider for the Giants. Costello is a solid passer who succeeded at both Stanford in the Pac-12 and the grueling SEC with the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Joe Judge would be reaching into his college roots here and make his first NFL pick from his college alumni. Costello will be 24 in June and has a chance to develop into a solid backup quarterback in the NFL. If any disaster scenario occurs with Daniel Jones,  it would be in the Giants’ best interest to have a better backup plan at QB than they currently have.
