RB Christian McCaffrey

2017 – Pick #8

There should be no one reading this that’s unaware of Christian McCaffrey.

Dave Gettleman saved his best pick for the Carolina Panthers as his last. Since being drafted 8th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, McCaffrey has been one of the league’s most electrifying players.

In four NFL seasons, he’s had three straight 1000+ cumulative yard seasons (2017-2019), back-to-back seasons of just rushing for more than 1000+ (2018-2019), and one season in which he eclipsed more than 2000+ total yards (2019).

His incredible 2019 season, in which he ran for 1387 yards and 15 touchdowns, along with 1005 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns, garnered him a Pro Bowl and an All Pro Selection.

The safe bet is that they will not be his last.

That special season also rewarded McCaffrey with a new contract from the Panthers: four years, $64 million dollars. It included a $21.5 million signing bonus, and has $38.1 million guaranteed.

The contract makes him the highest paid-per-year running back in the NFL, averaging more than $1 million per year ahead of Alvin Kamara and Ezekiel Elliott.

Unfortunately for McCaffrey, his 2020 season was plagued with injury, and he only appeared in three games. Still, he racked up 225 yards and five touchdowns on the ground, while receiving an additional 149 yards and one touchdown through the air.

He has a bright future ahead of him, and is poised to be one of Gettleman’s best draft picks — ever.
