No. 2: Melvin Ingram, edge rusher

The NY Giants failed to add a marquee edge rusher in free agency for the third consecutive offseason, so far.

While the NY Giants are banking on big bounce-back seasons from Oshane Ximines and Lorenzo Carter, as they return from injury, this could be a position GM Dave Gettleman targets early in the NFL Draft later this month. However, the organization has shown a willingness to spend on veterans at key positions of need this offseason.

Melvin Ingram could be an interesting fit.

While Ingram is not the dominant presence that he once was, he still produced a a 72.3 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, with a 76.3 pass-rush mark, underscoring his ability to still get after the quarterback last season, prior to suffering a season-ending knee injury.

At this stage of free agency, Ingram isn’t going to break the bank, and the NY Giants could certainly use a rotational pass-rusher. Depending on how the early arounds of the NFL Draft play out, this could be a mutually beneficial fit, similarly to the Giants striking gold with defensive back Logan Ryan signing weeks prior to the regular season kicking off.
