Bold Prediction No. 2: Dave Gettleman FINALLY Trades Back for the First Time ever as GM.

Dave Gettleman is notorious for many things. One item is his undeniable track record as a General Manager in his eight years running the Giants and Panthers’ draft operations.

Gettleman has made several picks, amounting to over 50 selections in his entire career. Along the way, he’s scouted, watched film, and evaluated thousands of prospects in between that never suited up in the Giants blue.

Dave Gettleman has had a fair share of successes in the draft along with some blunders and misses along the way. There have been good 1st rounders, bad 1st rounders, strong Day 2s, disappointing Day 2s, and much of the same on Day 3.

Gettleman has only six picks currently at his disposal to work with for this draft. He’s likely going to want more for the Giants’ youth revolution and to get younger at key positions. If that’s the case, it may finally be time for the NY Giants to move back in any given round in this draft.

It could be the Patriots at 15, Washington at 19 (unlikely), or maybe even the Bears at 20. The Giants could use some extra picks on days two and three both this year and in 2022. If the Giants feel they can get a high-rated player still on their board later in Round 1, perhaps Joe Judge’s influence helps Gettleman pull the plug on his first trade back.

Regardless, there will be several opportunities for the Giants to trade back in Rounds two, three, four, and six. The Giants currently hold two Day 2 picks, one in Round Two and Three, and they have three Day 3 picks, starting off in Round Four and then two picks in Round Six. The Giants could look to add a 5th round pick, the second round of the last day of Draft Weekend.

Joe Judge and his experience in New England boasts well for the Giants’ future in trading back. Judge’s footprint and importance to the team have been obvious all offseason long. Expect him to be in Gettleman’s ear and the Giants will trade back in this draft.
