Bold prediction No. 5: NY Giants take a Quarterback on Day 3 of the Draft

The NY Giants could stand to add a young, rookie QB to develop alongside Daniel Jones as a backup.

They shouldn’t look to add a guy earlier than Round 4, as they have far bigger needs at other positions. The backup QB position is one of the most underrated, underappreciated, and yet most important jobs on any football team.

There’s no bigger endgame or assault on a football team than losing your starting QB. The Giants last year lost all their momentum after Jones’ injury and it helped cost them a spot in the playoffs. They must learn from the lesson and they showed that by signing Mike Glennon to replace Colt McCoy.

Adding a rookie behind Glennon is a smart move both for 2021, and for the future. Glennon has never been much of a starter in his career, he isn’t a great downfield thrower, and he’s not a long-term option in New York.

There are some guys on Day 3 of the draft the Giants could look to add to their program and develop into an NFL quarterback. Guys such as Texas A&M’s Kellen Mond, Ian Book from Notre Dame, or Feleipe Franks from Arkansas could be some logical names to watch in Rounds four, five, and six.
