Kadarius Toney: Wide Receiver, Florida

The NY Giants shocked many and made a Giant-sized trade back for the first time ever in Dave Gettleman’s career Thursday night, before selecting Florida wide receiver Kadarius Toney.

The Giants traded back to #20 overall with the Chicago Bears. With that, they racked up an extra 1st round pick in 2022.

The trade was the Giants’ first time moving back in the 1st round since 2005 making a draft-day trade with the Steelers to move to #32 from #25 overall. With the 20th pick, the NY Giants selected Toney out of the University of Florida.

Kadarius Toney worked his way up to shine at Florida

In the grueling SEC, nothing comes easy for any player. That much was certain for Toney.

Toney lit up Friday nights on the Alabama high school gridirons he played on. He starred at quarterback, going 20-5 as a starter with 100 touchdowns in two seasons as a starter.

A 3-star recruit, Toney chose the Florida Gators over South Carolina and Alabama. Toney struggled with injuries and staying consistent his first few seasons in Gainseville.

He only racked up a combined 55 catches for less than 600 yards combined in three years. His injuries along with the lack of big numbers for the majority of his career are something to watch.
