The NY Giants had an active first day of the 2021 NFL Draft, and they weren’t alone. Overall, there were six deals in the past five weeks that saw first-round draft picks switch teams across the league. There were three such deals on night one of the draft alone.

Needless to say, all the posturing lead to a pretty spectacular first day of the three-day draft spectacular.

The NY Giants were able to restock their draft cupboard by making a deal with the Chicago Bears for the No. 11 pick that netted an additional fifth-round pick this year and additional first and fourth-round picks in 2022 coupled with a move back nine slots.

Not a bad haul for a team that isn’t in the position to turn away depth at any position.

For NY Giants fans, the first night of the draft led to a fresh face in the receiving corps with Kadarius Toney out of Florida being the team’s lone first-round selection. The SEC wideout was spectacular as the big-play complement of the Gator offense to Kyle Pitts, one of the most can’t-miss TE prospects since Vernon Davis.

While Pitts got far more of the pre-draft buzz of the two Kyle Trask’s UF targets, Toney is now the person of interest in the Empire State. With NY missing out on Pitts and the top three WR prospects (Ja’Marr Chase, Jaylen Waddle, Devonta Smith), Dave Gettleman did a great job satisfying the need to find weapons for Daniel Jones to improve on what was a promising sophomore campaign.

The NY Giants social media team agrees:

Is landing Toney enough, though?

It could be…or Gettleman can look to expand Jones’ arsenal with another pass-catching threat in Penn State’s Pat Freiermuth.

Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of drafting him:
