Following the NFL Draft, the NY Giants still have plenty of holes on the roster, and might dip into free agency’s third wave to fill them

The NY Giants added six players during the NFL Draft, but still have several holes on the roster that could stand to be bolstered by a free agent addition between now and the regular season kicking off in September.

Good news for the Giants — and every other team — is that as of 4 p.m. Eastern on Monday, any free agent player signed from now on will not factor into the compensatory pick formula, meaning that their performance won’t impact whether the NY Giants are awarded an extra pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Following last weekend’s trades, the NY Giants now have an additional first, third, and fourth round pick next April

After signing wide receiver Kenny Golladay and cornerback Adoree’ Jackson, and Kyle Rudolph, while losing Dalvin Tomlinson via free agency, it would seem a long shot that the NY Giants would be awarded any compensatory picks next year, as things stand. But, there’s always that chance.

Here’s a look at the NY Giants’ three biggest remaining needs, and the top available free agents who could fill them:

Inside linebacker

There was some talk, and expectations that the NY Giants were targeting Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons in the first-round of the NFL Draft, to pair alongside Blake Martinez at inside linebacker and even use his versatility to deploy the All-American off the edge as a pass-rusher.

Obviously, when the NY Giants traded out of the No. 11 overall pick in a deal with the Chicago Bears, with Parsons available, it was clear the organization valued the draft capital of a 2022 first-round pick and another player at No. 20 overall this year, over Parsons.

Still, the Giants need to get more athletic alongside Martinez.

The organization hopes one of the linebackers chosen late in the 2020 NFL Draft; Cam Brown, Tae Crowder, Carter Coughlin make significant strides in their second season and push for a starting job, but this is an area where a veteran addition could add a real boost.

Best remaining free agents: K.J. Wright, Kwon Alexander, Avery Williamson
