The NY Giants will field a more talented roster in September than the one that walked off the field in January, but several players are in dire need of strong seasons in 2021.

Whether it is to solidify long-term job security, or their success will be tied to the team’s success this season, these players have much at stake.

Here’s a look at the seven NY Giants players who need to step up in 2021

7) Lorenzo Carter – Edge

Expectations were high for Lorenzo Carter, as he entered his third NFL season in 2020, following a fairly impressive training camp.

However, Carter ruptured his Achilles tendon in Week 5 against the Dallas Cowboys, and was lost for the season, after producing just one sack and 15 total tackles.

Through the first two-plus seasons of Carter’s career, after being chosen in the third-round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the Georgia alum has just 103 total tackles and 9.5 sacks. Those numbers would be impressive for a single season, but he has never totaled more than 4.5 sacks in a season.

Following the NY Giants’ addition of second-round pick Azeez Ojulari, Carter’s days at the top of the depth chart might be numbered. He also might be playing for long-term security in 2021.
