The NY Giants will host the Denver Broncos in Week 1, league sources say, ahead of the 2021 NFL schedule release
The NFL is set to release the full 2021 schedule Wednesday evening, but the NY Giants will open the season Week 1 against the Denver Broncos at 4:25 p.m. on Fox, league sources tell FanSided.
That FOX is placing the NY Giants in the Game of The Week window certainly underscores how much intrigue there is nationally in New York’s revamped offense around third-year quarterback Daniel Jones.
This opening week matchup packs plenty of intrigue, as it will be the first game that Broncos offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur coaches against his former team, since being fired by the NY Giants following a pair of disappointing seasons in January, 2020.
Week 1 of the 2021 season will be the first meeting between the NY Giants and Broncos since New York fell 23-10 in Denver, back in 2017. The Giants hold a one-game advantage in the all-time series, 7-6.
The NY Giants aim to make the NFL Playoffs for the first time since the 2016 season, and are banking on Jones making significant strides as he enters his third NFL season.
Similar to the NY Giants’ supporting cast on offense, that now boasts wide receiver Kenny Golladay, first-round pick Kadarius Toney and the return of a healthy Saquon Barkley at running back, the Denver Broncos’ offense packs plenty of firepower.
The Broncos’ will arrive in East Rutherford with a dynamic receiving corps, led by Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler, but much uncertainty over whether quarterback Drew Lock will prove capable of developing into a franchise quarterback as he enters his third season.
Last season, the NY Giants fell one game shy of making the postseason, finishing with a 6-10 record, one game behind the Washington Football Team, for the NFC East division championship.
