Tuesday, the NY Giants claimed former Jacksonville Jaguars RB and Temple alum, Ryquell Armstead off waivers

The NY Giants continue to add to the depth chart behind Saquon Barkley, claiming former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Ryquell Armstead off waivers Tuesday.

Armstead, 24, missed all of last season due to complications from COVID-19, and was waived by the Jaguars on Monday.

In all likelihood, Armstead now has the chance to compete for a roster spot with recently signed running back Corey Clement, behind Barkley and free agent pickup Devontae Booker.

In one season with the Jaguars, in 2019, Armstead averaged 3.1 yards per carry, on 35 rushing attempts for 108 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The Millville native was originally chosen in the fifth-round of the 2019 NFL Draft, out of Temple, where he averaged 4.9 yards per attempt and scored 34 touchdowns over four seasons with the Owls.

To make room for Armstead, the NY Giants released quarterback/wide receiver Joe Webb.

Armstead has the ability to make plays out of the backfield and provide some special teams depth, which could help him when it comes to possibly fighting for a roster spot this summer.

Here’s a look at the NY Giants’ current RB Depth chart, and how Ryquell Armstead fits:

1) Saquon Barkley

2) Devontae Booker

3) Ryquell Anderson

4) Corey Clement
