6. Chicago, IL (January 2)

This is probably the most debatable spot on my list.

I’ve loved Chicago every time I’ve visited, but admittedly January 2 is near the bottom of the list of dates I’d want to be there. It’ll almost certainly be freezing cold. But I’d rather spend a cold weekend in Chicago than a pleasant weather weekend in Dallas. Perhaps that says more about my feelings towards the Cowboys than it does about the travel options, but I do think Chicago just seems like a city with more personality.

There are lots of great food options, and it’s a great drinking town. Go to Lou Malnati’s to sample the famous Chicago deep dish pizza, get a good steak somewhere, and if the schedule allows, perhaps grab a Bulls or Blackhawks game.  You can also check out the observation deck on the 94th floor of the John Hancock Center, swing by Wrigley Field just to sneak a peak, or check out the Magnificent Mile.
