The NY Giants begin a three-day mandatory minicamp Tuesday, with plenty of competition for starting jobs and several players expected to practice for the first time this spring

The NY Giants will take another step closer to football season, when a mandatory three-day minicamp begins Tuesday.

Last week, wide receiver Kenny Golladay practiced for the first time in an NY Giants uniform and rookie Kadarius Toney is expected to join his teammates for the first time since rookie minicamp, during this mandatory three-day stretch of practices.

Expect the coaching staff to ratchet up the install of the schemes on both offense and defense, and lay the groundwork for what to expect when training camp begins in late July.

Here’s a look at three things the NY Giants must accomplish this week for mandatory minicamp to be considered a success

1) Get rookie Kadarius Toney up to speed

Up until this week, practices across the NFL were voluntary, and NY Giants first-round pick Kadarius Toney chose not to attend any of New York’s workouts, after rookie minicamp.

While it is entirely within Toney’s grounds not to report to OTAs, an argument can be made that he lost out on valuable time before the entire roster reported. Likewise, Toney missed out on reps catching passes from Jones, as the University of Florida alum figures to play a key role in the NY Giants’ aerial attack this season.

Beyond getting a first look at Toney on the field and on the receiving end of Jones’ passes, it will be interesting to see how often he lines up outside opposite Toney, in the slot, and with the first-team offense.

An argument can be made that Toney’s arrival has the makings of being the biggest storyline of the Giants’ minicamp.
