Julian Love, Defensive Back

Julian Love is going to have a steady role in year three with the New York Giants.

Love moved from a pure slot cornerback in 2019 to a hybrid safety-cornerback role in 2020. Love is a well-documented leader and high IQ football player. He has the ability to play multiple positions on the backend of the Giants’ defense.

Julian Love isn’t necessarily a starter, but that doesn’t prove his value to the team. Love’s versatility and experience in Pat Graham’s system are very important. Graham has already shown his confidence and trust in Julian Love’s game and that should only increase and get stronger in their second year working together.

Love’s swiss army knife-ability makes him a valuable commodity in the secondary. If any injury pops up, Love can step up in a pinch at really any position in the defensive backfield.  Other than Logan Ryan, few players are suited to play two key positions to stop opposing pass defenses. Love may not be an every snap player, but he will crucial to this defense’s success in 2021.
