The NY Giants have not won a postseason game since Super Bowl 46, but there’s one key reason for that

The last five years have been a constant struggle for the NY Giants.

The Giants have four consecutive losing seasons, with only mild progress seen from 2017 to 2020. Going from three wins to six wins in three years isn’t much of an accomplishment. The NY Giants know that and they are doing their best to correct their mistakes and move on from their troubled past of the last four years.

The  NY Giants have been one of the league’s worst teams in the win/loss category since 2017. New York has a grand total of 18 wins in four years, averaging out to 4.5 wins per year. That will never make it in the cutthroat business that is the NFL. As Coach Parcells said, “You are what your record says you are”.

The NY Giants made the playoffs in 2016 with an impressive 11-5 record; They lost to the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card. The next season, everything in the Ben McAdoo and Jerry Reese era spiraled out of control from there until their eventual firing midseason after Week 13. The 2017 Giants was one of the low points in franchise history with three wins, firing their only Head coach and GM in-season ever, and they dealt with numerous suspensions and other injuries.

In fact, NFL Analyst Warren Sharp put into perspective just how bad the Giants have been since 2016. As an NFL analytics, data, and numbers guru, Sharp tweeted how many weeks every NFL team had with a winning record since 2016.

Sharp’s findings are quite staggering.

Every single NFL team except the NY Giants has had at least one week with a winning record since 2016.

Even the cross-town rivals and the long-time struggling Jets have found two weeks with winning ways. This chart illustrates just how low the Giants have fallen on the NFL totem pole and how far they need to get back to contender status.

Only four NFL teams have under 10 total weeks with a winning record since 2016. The Giants are the only team with zero weeks with a winning record. It’s an unacceptable figure for any team, especially the NY Giants who are four-time Super Bowl champs and one of the league’s most storied franchises.

The Giants have lost their Week 1 game now four years in a row and 9 out of their last 11 opening games. The NY Giants have also dropped their Week 2 game in all four seasons, essentially putting their backs against the wall and their season on the line in Week 3 in September all four years. In fact, the team has only one 2-2 start the last four years, coming in 2019. The 2020 Giants started 0-5 as did the 2017 Giants team as well.

The 2021 squad needs to get off to a fast start.

Lucky for them, they have a very winnable Week 1 game against the Broncos. Even better, they are home for Week 1 vs Denver and Week 3 vs Atlanta. Their first four opponents all have major question marks at quarterback, the Giants must take advantage and get off to an early advantage in the NFC East race. Anything less than a 2-2 start would be a disappointment and backtrack the Giants’ season and their odds of making the playoffs.

The NY Giants need to put an end to this miserable streak of no weeks with a winning record for multiple seasons in a row. Four years with not one single winning record in 64 weeks is something that should never occur with the New York Giants. The team has put together an active offseason and built a strong team for 2021.

It’s time they show tangible results on the field where success only is defined by wins. There’s no more time for moral victories or accepting consistent losing streaks. The 2021 NY Giants have a chance to put to rest a bad era of Giants football and make the Tri-state area proud of their team again week in and week out.
