NY Giants’ hidden gem #3: Reggie Ragland, LB

I include a picture of Reggie Ragland in his Kansas City threads because it was not long ago that the Alabama product was a beastly machine that strengthened the front seven of the Chiefs’ attack.

He peaked in his second season in KC, collecting 86 tackles and an interception off of Tom Brady in 2018. Interestingly enough, though his tackles have never even eclipsed 52 since, he has been able to collect several sacks after mustering .5 sacks in his first two seasons.

A move to middle linebacker may have helped in collecting one in his lone season in the Motor City, but his number of QB hits jumped to three in 2019 in his final season in Kansas City as well, so perhaps improved instincts and being coached up help his QB tracking abilities.

Ragland comes to NY on a $1.2 million deal for just one season, so the likelihood is high that this could simply be a stop on his NFL journey and not a long-term stay. Either way, the Giants will benefit from the competition he brings to the LB room, which added Ifeadi Odenigbo and Azeez Ojulari this offseason as well.

Perhaps if things in NY/NJ go as well in 2021 as they did a decade prior, Ragland could wind up being a keeper for sentimental reasons.
