Could these five NY Giants players be playing their final season in New York?

There are things we will not know about the 2021 NY Giants until September 12th when the Denver Broncos visit MetLife Stadium for a mid-afternoon showdown of the AFC West (the weakest conference in the AFC in 2020) and the NFC East (the weakest conference in the NFC in 2020).

On that list is the status of Saquon Barkley’s right knee, the status of Daniel Jones’ development, and the exact pecking order for the stacked WR room David Gettleman has provided the third-year former Duke Blue Devil with in order to make a leap under center.

What we do know before the 2021 season even starts is the contractual status of the roster moving forward. That allows us the foresight to spot the writing on the wall and identify just exactly who needs to perform well to survive roster cuts next offseason.

These five NY Giants, in particular, run the highest risk of being released after the 2021 season:

Player #1 unlikely to return after 2021 NY Giants season: Derrick Dillon, WR

It’s been a will they, won’t they situation for the NY Giants and the concept of finally letting go of former LSU WR Derrick Dillon since he was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2020.

In January, Dillon was signed to a reserve/future contract, and he is currently on the 2022 books. The odds of him somehow finding his way onto the field and carving out a role in 2021 are slim to none.

More than likely, Dillon will be looking for a new home this time next year.
