The NY Giants doubled down on their commitment to adding as many weapons as possible around QB Daniel Jones, selecting WR Kadarius Toney No. 20 overall in the NFL Draft

We all know the shortcomings of the NY Giants’ passing game the last few years.

The transition from Eli Manning has had its rough times.

The Giants‘ offensive line has been for lack of a better word, inconsistent.

The running game bolstered by a generational talent has been slowed by injury.  After the departure of Odell Beckham, the receiving corps have been sub-par and there has not been a homerun threat.

Enter Kadarius Toney the NY Giants’ first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Now, it wasn’t the greatest start for the former Florida Gator star.

Toney had some equipment malfunctions with his cleats during voluntary OTAs, that had him running drills bare foot and slips that caused him to enter the locker room early. There was also the fact that he had not signed his rookie deal before mini-camp (he did agree to four-year $13.7 million contract). He has taken most of his reps with the second team.

So, is this a case of just some bad luck or was he worthy of a first round pick?

I will take the latter and I have to believe the Giants will as well.  A First Team All-SEC player, Toney caught 70 passes for 984 yards and 10 touchdowns.  According to PFF, he had a 99.6 grade with a perfect passing rating of 158.3 when targeted on pass of 20+ yards.  This accounted for 10.7% of Toney’s targets (via PFF).

This is the type of weapon is something Daniel Jones has not seen in his short career.

Toney is a dynamic receiver that can get downfield and catch the ball.  He can be a huge bail out option for Jones as well.

A short slant or a wide receiver screen could lead to a missed tackle and six points for the Giants. Toney has all training camp then preseason to form a great relationship with Jones and something special could be brewing for the 2021 season and beyond.
