2) Phil Simms

Years: 1979-1993

Legacy: Two-time Super Bowl Champion (XXI, XXV); Super Bowl MVP (XXI)

Phil Simms had an inauspicious start to his NFL career, but he’s widely remembered as the second best quarterback in NY Giants’ history.

It took the former first round pick almost six seasons to finally prove his worth, but the payoff was worth it. Simms was the quarterback who finally ended the drought – bringing the Giants their first Super Bowl victory.

His performance was one of the finest in the game’s history – he completed 22 of his 25 passes for 269 yards and three touchdowns. Simms’ coach, Bill Parcells, offered him high praise – saying “This might be the best game a quarterback has ever played.”

Simms’ mettle changed the trajectory of his career – bringing him from a first round bust to arguably the most-underrated quarterback in NFL history. Even though his name may not pop up when the league mentions their greats, Giants’ fans will always look back on Simms fondly.
