The NY Giants are expecting big things this upcoming season out of their 2020 third-round pick, offensive tackle Matt Peart.

The NY Giants are expecting big things out of their 2020 third-round pick, offensive tackle Matt Peart from UConn.

Shortly after drafting him at No. 99 overall, head coach Joe Judge told reporters:

"It’s rare to describe someone as 315 pounds, and skinny. We interviewed him a number of times, he’s a great kid. He’s athletic and he’s long and we think he has a lot of upside for a young kid. He’s a guy that the coaching staff really wanted to work with."

Matt Peart’s rookie year with NY Giants

Peart did not play until Week 6 his rookie season, taking fellow rookie Andrew Thomas‘ spot at left tackle after the latter was benched for a violation of team rules.

A couple of weeks later, Peart switched to right tackle, taking Cam Fleming’s spot.

Peart missed three games late in the season due to an ankle injury. He ended his rookie season with one start, 150 offensive snaps played, and only two sacks allowed.

After his starts at both right and left tackle, former NY Giants offensive line coach Marc Colombo said this about him, via the New York Post:

"What we’ve seen from Matt is that he’s pretty balanced, both right and left tackle doing he’s doing some really good things. He’s big, he’s strong, and one of the best things about him is that he’s smart. This type of stuff doesn’t bother him; he just goes in and executes and does his job and we love that about Matt."

During the offseason, Peart was seen working out with teammate Will Hernandez, and he definitely got bigger.

There will be a competition in the G-Men’s upcoming training camp later this summer between Peart and the veteran, Nate Solder, for the starting right tackle position, but it’s safe to say that Peart will probably win the job.

There’s a lot to like about him; he’s a giant (no pun intended). He weighs 320 pounds, has a height of 6-foot-0, and is very athletic.
