As players all across the NFL are preparing and anxiously awaiting the start of training camps across the country, several members of the NY Giants continue to make headlines for all the right reasons. It was recently discovered that a few core players on the Giants’ offensive line decided to take part in the famous OL Masterminds Summit.
For those unfamiliar, it’s a special seminar held by former and current offensive linemen that are the best of the best. Established players that go over everything from mastering techniques, stances, and the mental aspect of being a high-quality offensive lineman for years to come.
It can only help those that either wants to learn from those that have excelled at the position for many years or those that want to brush up on things before the regular season arrives. At any rate, offensive guard Will Hernandez, center Nick Gates, and offensive tackle Andrew Thomas were all in attendance for this year’s event.
Several members of the NY Giants attend OL Masterminds Summit
Confirmed via Twitter by Zack Rosenblatt of Newark Star-Ledger and NJ.com, all three attended in addition to several other offensive linemen across the league. In the grand scheme of things and just like Rosenblatt said, for this young core of offensive linemen to attend OL Masterminds Summit with a few weeks to go before the start of training camp is such a smart thing to do.
To be able to work alongside masters of the positional group can only help the cause as the Giants’ offensive line for the most part is still filled with several question marks. Can they get the job done in protecting quarterback Daniel Jones? Can they consistently create rushing gaps and lanes for running back Saquon Barkley to run wild against the opposition? Can they stay healthy and gel as a cohesive unit throughout the entire season?
Your guess is as good as mine but at the end of the day, it’s a great sight to see that Hernandez, Gates, and Thomas are proving to be serious about doing their part to answer all these questions in stride with positive results. It won’t be easy, but this core of offensive linemen are undoubtedly the pillars needed to hold the offense together to create greatness when it matters most.
Training camp is scheduled to start for the Giants on Tuesday, July 27 in East Rutherford, New Jersey at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center. It’ll be a lot of fun to watch unfold as positional battles take place and to see how players ultimately progress as they get ready for the new season ahead.
