Sterling Shepard has battled through injuries during his career with the NY Giants, including a pair of concussions in 2019
How often does NY Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard get injured?
Shepard is one of the premier slot receivers in the NFL, but has faced durability issues throughout his career, including suffering multiple concussions during a tumultuous 2019 campaign where he appeared in a career-low 10 contests.
Here’s a look at some of Shepard’s most notable injuries, as well as an update on his most recent injury.
Sterling Shepard injury history, updates
Sterling Shepard turf toe, September 2020
On the same day the Giants lost running back Saquon Barkley for the season with a torn ACL, Shepard suffered a foot injury that was later revealed to be turf-toe during a loss to the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field.
Shepard was placed on injured reserve that week, and went on to miss the next four weeks, prior to returning in Week 7 in a 22-21 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football.
Sterling Shepard concussion, October 2019
Shepard suffered a second concussion of the 2019 season in Week 5 against the Minnesota Vikings, after trying to make a catch deep downfield but taking a big hit from Vikings safety Xavier Rhodes.
The NY Giants, and the NFL, were extra precautious with Shepard because this concussion came just four weeks after he suffered the same injury. Shepard was sent to see a concussion specialist in Pittsburgh, during his time in the NFL’s concussion protocol.
Shepard went on to miss the next four weeks, and caught 57 passes for 675 yards and three touchdowns that season.
Sterling Shepard concussion, September 2019
Shepard suffered his first of two concussions of the 2019 season, in the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys.
After catching a pass over the middle of the field, Shepard was dinged and appeared woozy, which ultimately drew an NFL investigation of the incident. Shepard entered the concussion protocol, and was held out of the NY Giants’ Week 2 contest against the Buffalo Bills.
Sterling Shepard rib injury, December 2018
Shepard was knocked from the NY Giants’ Week 13 game against the Chicago Bears, when linebacker Roquan Smith delivered a big hit on the wide receiver trying to catch a pass over the middle of the field. Fortunately for Shepard and the NY Giants, he did not miss any time due to the injury.
Sterling Shepard migraines, 2017
Shepard suffered multiple concussions during his high school football career and his college career at Oklahoma, and during his rookie season in 2017 he felt the lingering effects when migraines held him out of several games.
