Key to NY Giants beating Philadelphia Eagles: Putting pressue on Jalen Hurts

Jalen Hurts wasn’t the best signal-caller in the Alabama QB room during his time in Tuscaloosa, with Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa being the hero that brought the team their 2017 NCAA title. Hurts was famously taken out of the title game against Georgia three and a half years ago, clearing the way for Tagovailoa to become the hero, and the eventual first round pick.

Hurts became a second-round pick, though, and won the confidence of Philadelphia personel to the point of the Eagles trading away Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts. Time will tell if that was a smart decision.

From this point of view, it culd turn out to be a disastrous one if teams can pray on Hurts’ numerous weaknesses.

According to CBS Sports’ Dave Richard’s pre-draft scouting report, there are plenty:

"Hurts is equal parts tantalizing and frustrating, and it’s his inconsistencies at pretty much everything that keep him from being an elite prospect. The problems with his passing stem from an elongated, over-the-top windup which, combined with inconsistent footwork, sent passes sailing. Hurts also made plenty of predetermined throws and didn’t always read the field well."

If the NY Giants can rattle Hurts, he can make the sort of game-changing mistakes that lead to easy victories over an Eagles franchise that missed the postseason for the first time in four years in 2020.
